Aircraft Refueling Trucks Undergo Winter Maintenance to Ensure Aviation Safety

As winter approaches with plummeting temperatures and harsh weather conditions, airport ground support teams have launched a comprehensive winter maintenance campaign for aircraft refueling trucks. This proactive measure aims to prevent equipment failures caused by cold weather, ensure the safe and efficient operation of refueling services, and lay a solid foundation for smooth aviation operations throughout the winter season.

Aircraft refueling trucks are crucial to aviation safety, as their stable performance directly relates to flight schedules and the safety of crew, passengers, and aircraft. Cold winter temperatures pose unique challenges to these specialized vehicles, including reduced battery capacity, thickened lubricants, frozen pipelines, and increased risk of component wear, all of which could lead to unexpected breakdowns and disrupt refueling operations.

To address these challenges, the maintenance team has developed a detailed maintenance plan covering key components of the refueling trucks. First and foremost, battery maintenance is prioritized: technicians conduct load tests on all truck batteries to verify their capacity to withstand frigid temperatures, replace aging batteries promptly, and keep spare batteries in temperature-controlled storage with regular charging to ensure emergency readiness.

Other key maintenance items include tire inspections, brake system checks, and winterization of vehicle compartments. Technicians check tire pressure and tread wear to ensure stable traction on icy or snowy surfaces, inspect brake pads, discs, and lines for potential issues, and verify the proper functioning of compartment heating systems to prevent freezing of valves, nozzles, and other critical components. Routine checks of filters, including fuel and air filters, are also conducted to keep fluids clean and protect engines from damage.
